- Do your research. Ask your friends and family for recommendations, do a google search, and read reviews. The best way to learn about the photographer's experience is to refer to someone who has already been through the process.
- Hire a true professional. We all know someone who “takes photos”, but taking great pictures does not equal a professional. Understanding how to pose, engage, create good lighting and edit consistently are skills developed over time and with much education. Hire a professional photographer who has an established track record not a hobbyist. Look at their websites, their portfolios, and their reviews. Real photographers have a website and should be licensed and insured.
- Find someone whose style you love. Visit the photographer’s website and social media pages and review their portfolio. Does the photography style match your vision for your final images? Do you like colors and skin tones? Do you like the lighting style? Are the faces clear and well lit? If the style is entirely different from your own, you’re not going to be pleased with the results.
